UVA’s Facilities Management Housing Zone seeks an HVAC professional. The position will be filled either as an HVAC Assistant or HVAC Senior Assistant depending on the credentials and

experience of the finalist selected. The Housing zone oversees facilities services for Housing and Residential Life (HRL) properties, managing 7,000 beds across 180 buildings spanning 3 million square feet of residential space. Our portfolio includes single-family homes, traditional residence halls, and apartments.

As a Trades Assistants, you'll collaborate closely with HVAC technicians and contractors to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This entry-level role provides valuable hands-on

experience in HVAC while aiding the team in delivering top-notch service to our clients. While no formal HVAC training is necessary, candidates with technical training or coursework in HVAC systems or related fields will receive preference. Additionally,

experience in construction or maintenance roles, familiarity with HVAC equipment and components, and OSHA certification or a willingness to obtain it are desirable.

Hvac Assistant/senior Assistant

Duties Include

Assist other mechanics in performing HVAC repairs, along with diagnostic and preventative maintenance on a variety of air conditioning units, ventilation equipment, temperature and humidity controls, and refrigeration equipment.Develop an increasing knowledge of types of material and equipment used for the various utility systems involved in University projects.Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate purchase orders.Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines.Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.Meet with and respond to customer requests on work status in coordination with supervisor.In addition to the above job

responsibilities, other

duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent for both levels.

Experience: None for Assistant level; 4 years of related

experience for Senior Assistant level. Familiarity with residential service environments highly preferred. Candidates with technical training or coursework in HVAC systems or related fields will receive preference.

Licensure: Valid driver's license, with positive points balance.

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the following background checks: criminal, sexual offender and DMV.

Compensation

HVAC Assistant: $17 - $22 per hour ($35,360 - $45,760 annually); Employees new to the University, are eligible for a $1,500.00 sign-on bonus.

HVAC Senior Assistant: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour ($43,680 - $52,000 annually). Employees new to the University, are eligible for a $1,500.00 sign-on bonus.

Physical Demands

Employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend and twist in order to perform their work. Employee must travel around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
